Chile Arrest Firefighter for Starting Deadly Blaze

If the information in the article is accurate then there are some good learning points here.  One they discuss two persons working together involved in setting wildland fires, which is quite rare.  Secondly, it mentions some form of a "device" being used, again pretty rare.  Thirdly, they mention that one conspirator told the other the best time and location to set the fires for maximum effect and damage.  This means these fires are "goal directed" attacks for some unknown reason at this point.  This is completely different from a typical wildland serial arsonist who sets fires for "emotionally based" reasons.  Some key learning points are every wildland arson event is different, and not all share the same motives.  Additionally, and most importantly, every wildland arson has the potential to become an uncontrolled, catastrophic event.  No matter how big the fire actually gets, investigators must look at the "intent of the arsonist" when looking at charges, and not always the size of the fire....in this case this pair may have been intent on starting a devastating fire.
